AQUA LUXE

Smart Water Management System for Luxury Homes

Aqua Luxe is a unified smart-water ecosystem designed for high-end homes with complex water usage patterns. The goal was to create a seamless network of dispensers, heaters, softeners, and monitoring hubs, wrapped in an elevated design language that matches luxury interiors.

Problem Statement

Luxury homeowners struggle to understand, monitor, and optimize water usage across multiple appliances. They need a centralized, intuitive system that detects issues early, improves consumption habits, and integrates smoothly into their lifestyle and home aesthetics.

Target Audience

Eco-conscious Luxury Homeowners

Individuals and families who value high-comfort living but care deeply about sustainability, water purity, and smart home integration. They expect beautiful products, effortless control, and reliable data.

User Persona

The Carters Family

A large family living in LA’s outskirts with three kids, one baby , one pet, staff, and heavy daily water needs. They want clean water everywhere, reliable appliances, and a system that simplifies (not complicates) their routines.

Core Needs

  • Clean, safe water
  • Access to drinkable water in every room
  • Clear, easy-to-understand interfaces

Behaviors

  • Frequent family time at home
  • Weekends outdoors
  • Daily pool use
  • Staff handling cleaning & meal prep

Pain Points

  • No visibility of water hardness
  • Slow heating times
  • Delays in parts/filters
  • Each family member wants personalized settings

Product System Map

We mapped the entire home’s water journey from pre-filtering, heating, softening, and dispensing to design a cohesive system rather than stand-alone appliances.

Every major space (basement, living room, bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms) plays a role in the network.

Aqua Luxe ties all these nodes into one unified flow:

Tap water → Filtration → Softening → Heating → Dispensing → Monitoring.

Design Direction

We drew from premium home devices, espresso machines, architectural metals, and modern kitchen appliances—balancing minimalism, warmth, and technical precision.

Product Family

As System + UX Designer, I worked closely with product designers to blend the digital experience with the physical product language, aligning ergonomics, CMF, screen states, and information flows into a seamless whole.

The Smart Central Hub

I explored layout variations driven by user priorities: quick-glance water quality, usage charts, alerts, and schedules. The CMF of the physical unit informed the final UI color palette for consistency across touchpoints.

Working Prototype

Design Intent

The hub serves not just homeowners but staff – chefs, cleaners, gardeners – who shouldn’t need an app.
Everything needed is visible in one or two taps:

  • Next week’s water forecast

  • Heater schedules

  • Water quality

  • Daily usage

  • Dispenser performance

Outcome

The project delivered a unified system that feels premium, intuitive, and technically robust.
Working closely with Midea’s product designers taught me the balance between heated debates and meaningful collaboration. These discussions sharpened the design outcomes, proving that shared expertise leads to stronger systems.

This project strengthened my ability to integrate UX, physical systems, and stakeholder collaboration into one cohesive solution.
